A Week in the UK: Part I

We spent last week back in the UK seeing friends and family, as well as taking in a few new sights and a bit of the Rugby World Cup while we were at it!

We arrived on a Saturday and spent the first couple of days in and around London. On Saturday, after a quick nap at Luke’s sister’s flat, we headed for a walk around Regent’s Park and nearby Camden town before meeting up with some friends at the Water Poet.

Then on Sunday, we headed to Kingston with Sophie to meet up with Luke’s parents, brother, sister-in-law and brand new nephew Thomas; lots of baby cuddles and Rugby World Cup watching was had.

Back home in Bath, on Monday, we set off down the hill into town in the sunny weather to visit No.1 Royal Crescent: a house on the Royal Crescent decorated as it would have been in the 1700s to illustrate what life was like for wealthy Bathonions (and their servants). It was a beautiful property and wandering around the house was like stepping back in time. We had been meaning to check out this property for a while, so it was great to be able to take it in.

Then on Tuesday we took the train into Bristol and spent the afternoon at the At-Bristol science museum. It was full of hands on exhibits (we especially liked making our own stop-motion animations) and a 3D planetarium show that taught us about the constellations in the Autumn night sky.

After a quick trip to the gift shop, we made our way up to climb Cabot Tower to take in the spectacular views over Bristol, before heading back down to the waterfront to meet a friend for cider and pie.

Our first few days back in Luke’s homeland were busy, but they were lots of fun and a welcome break from our moving preparations. Tune in next time for the rest of our trip, as we set out on more day trips to Wales and Salisbury.

Here are a few more photos from our first few days in the UK:

Curious what we were doing this time last year? Well, we attended a film screening at the St. John's International Women's Film Festival and ate a tasty meal at a new (to us) restaurant.

And two years ago, we attended Spirit Song, which was a fundraising gala showcasing local aboriginal talent!

It was so nice to be back! And we planned the trip a bit last minute so the time with family and friends was such a bonus because we weren't sure if we'd be able to see them this Fall!

Bristol is such a picturesque place down by the harbour!

Yeah, we had the best time catching up with family and friends during our trip! When you don't see people very often, it's great to get some quality time in.

Yeah we were really happy to be able to make a trip over to the UK before we move! Especially because we'll be going back to NL for Christmas.
