Bakers Market Sunday

After a party on Friday and a full day of curling on Saturday we opted for a slightly less active Sunday activity, popping down to the Great Hall on Queen Street West for the Toronto Bakers Market.

The Bakers Market is a new Toronto tradition that brings bakers and sweet makers from all across the city, and puts them in one big room for you to sample to your heart's content. As soon as we arrived we could smell good things, and it being lunchtime, couldn't wait to get our hands on some food.

We ended up doing lunch in several shifts, grabbing empanadas, Zimbabwean pies and cannoli down on the market floor before retreating to the balcony "lounge" area to enjoy a little sit down with our food and free hot chocolate. As well as providing a comfortable retreat from the bustling market floor, it gave us a good view of the action from above, and made it very easy to plan our next move...

Needless to say, all of the food and drink was delicious and we walked away with a loaf of bread and a few more treats to enjoy later. Before we made our trip home, however, we decided to check out the Post Market, which was happening upstairs in another part of the big old Victorian building.

Crammed into every room of the building, the Post Market featured all sorts of arts and crafts. After checking out some nice looking prints of city maps, Elizabeth's attention was grabbed by a stall selling purses made from materials sourced from all over the world. She ended up buying a purse made from a Turkish carpet, and left the market very happy with herself!

All in all, it was a pretty successful afternoon trip, and if the bakers market pops up elsewhere we shall be back.
