For our first weekend of summer in Toronto, we headed down to Echo Beach to catch the CBC Music Festival. Beautiful weather, tasty food and great bands made for a pretty great Saturday.

The event kicked off at 1pm but we didn’t head down until a little later, making sure we were there in time to grab a bit of food before listening to one of Luke’s new favourite bands, Alvvays. There was a wide variety of food trucks, but we ended up settling a on a pulled pork parfait (pork, mashed potato, beans and BBQ sauce all scooped together in a delicious sundae) and some tasty wings from Hank Daddy's Barbecue.

Just as we were grabbing our food we heard Alvvays kick off on the main stage so we quickly made our way to a grassy knoll where we could sit, eat and listen. The band put off a great performance and after finishing our dinner we moved closer to catch their final few tunes. The sun was out, and behind the main stage we had views of the Toronto skyline and Lake Ontario.

We then grabbed some dessert from another food truck (mini donuts) before checking out The Franklin Electric on the second stage. Just as they finished up their set, The New Pornographers could be heard kicking of their set in the distance, so we joined the herd of music fans as it moved back to the main stage where we’d then hang out for the rest of the evening.

We hadn’t hear much of The New Pornographers before, but liked what we saw/heard. Really entertaining show that warmed us up for the headline act - and our faves - Hey Rosetta! After a short break, just as the sun started to set (at 9pm! Summer is awesome) and bathe the stage in a soft pink glow, the Newfoundlanders took the the stage. The crowd was pumped, and so were we as we moved right down close to the stage.

Hey Rosetta!
As usual, Hey Rosetta were awesome. Not much else to be said, except that if you haven’t listened to them before you should go do that now. Welcome, the song they ended the festival on, is particularly great, but really every song they played was fantastic. Great end to a chill summer day in Toronto.
What were we up to this time last year I hear you ask? Well, we were hanging out with friends at Terra Nova national park. Two years ago we were on a day trip from Ocean Pond with Elizabeth's parents to check out Heart's Content. Along the way we engaged in an epic artsy photo contest.
