Then on Saturday, we went to the talk by Deepak Chopra at the Jack Byrne Arena, with Elizabeth’s family. Deepak Chopra is a well-known physician who advocates alternative medicine in many forms, and is the author of a plethora of books. We weren’t sure what the talk would be about, but he mainly focused on the concept of consciousness and the mind-body connection. Deepak Chopra was a great speaker and the entire talk was thought-provoking. He ended it off with a group meditation period, which inadvertently turned into naptime for more than one person (Luke included). After the talk, Elizabeth’s mom got her book signed by Deepak himself and ended up buying some of his other books. Unfortunately, the parking lot of the arena isn’t set up for quick exits, so after we got back to the car it took us 45 minutes to leave the facility.
The two time capsules differed in many ways, inside and out, but there were a few mainstays such as the letters to each other in case they weren’t friends anymore, the 25th birthday cards (which were hilarious), profiles of their 13 year old selves, and Indiana Jones key chains. Janet’s writing seemed to be more profound, while Elizabeth wanted to ask her 25 year old self if she had saved enough pennies to save the rainforest (Answer: No). For some reason, Elizabeth included some of her old baby clothes/toys as well as a mystery thing she made, while Janet opted to include her Posh Spice Barbie doll and a French novel from Grade 7. There were lots of other odds and ends, including various pieces of writing and a few photographs each. They were a lot of fun to open, and making new time capsules to open in another 15+ years may be in order!
