#DaWestWedding Weekend

This past weekend, Elizabeth's sister Rebecca got married in St. John's! The weekend, and week before, were very busy with wedding preparations but everything went off without a hitch.. well, except for the one that counts.

Thursday night was the Bachelorette for the girls, which started off with a flashback to childhood by jumping around a trampoline park (including attempting slacklining and a ninja warrior course!). It was followed up with a pizza party and then fun at Skye's with "wild" accessories, snacks, drinks, glowing shot glasses, and Bachelorette Balderdash - all about Rebecca. Afterwards, we hit up downtown... and let's just leave it at that. We had a great time.

Friday was the Wedding Rehearsal as well as the day to recover from the night before, for both the guys and the girls. The Rehearsal Dinner was held at the Gypsy Tea Room and provided the Bridal Shower with some fuel for the Rehearsal itself, as well as providing the Dawe family with a significant amount of leftovers that didn't last as long as you would expect. The Cajun Chicken Penne was a dream... After the Rehearsal, we headed back to the Dawe's house for a dessert party; it was a good opportunity to connect with new people over tasty treats as well as catch up with others we hadn't seen in a while.

Then it was Saturday - wedding day! It started bright and early with hair and makeup for the girls at 8 am. The morning and early afternoon were a time to relax, with the bridal party slowly getting ready until the wedding started at 2:30 pm.

The wedding itself was amazing, with Elizabeth (and others, right?) crying even before the ceremony began. Afterwards, family photos outside the church, followed by bridal party pictures with stops at Commissariat House, Signal Hill, and the Quidi Vidi breakwater. Rebecca and Andy were chauffered around for the afternoon in a convertible, basking in the sun... and the wind. We were in Newfoundland, after all.

The reception was at Bally Haly, and the venue was stunning! Floyd cocktails were flowing during Happy Hour and everyone got their photos taken for the Polaroid guest book. During dinner the speeches were short and sweet, and it was a good chance for anyone to get up and tell a story about the bride and groom, or give them marital advice, to get them to kiss. Lots of great stories were told. Once everyone had finished digesting, there was a candy bar and mini cupcakes to treat yourself.

One of the highlights of the day had to be their (surprisingly) awesome first dance. Rebecca and Andy had fooled us all when they started off the dance slowly before heading into a full-on choreographed routine! AMAZING.

Later on, others joined them on the dance floor and a great time was had by all. The specifically curated playlist seemed to go down well.

Sunday was the gift opening, and afterwards we also managed to catch up with some friends in the afternoon in Bannerman Park. From what we've heard, the summer in St. John's has been one of the best so we were happy to have some time to relax and enjoy the sun with our buddies.  We headed back to Toronto on Monday but were so glad that we managed to see as many friends and family as we did, and we are so happy for you, Rebecca and Andy, we love you guys!

As is to be expected, there will eventually be some beautiful photos to come from the photographer, but for now here is a sample of some of the Dawe family's non-professional photos from the weekend:
