Duck Race Sunday

This Sunday, between packing up our apartment and trying to sell off half of our furniture, we found a little time to step outside and take part in the annual Rennie’s River Rubber Duck Race.

So many ducks.
So, first of all: we’re moving to Toronto! We’ll be heading up there for the beginning of November, which means we’re now in full on moving mode: lots of packing, selling stuff, and sorting out an apartment. We’ve been pretty busy. As always, we’ll still find time for our Something Saturdays, and we’re pretty excited by all of the possibilities of moving to Toronto.

Oh, and we'll be in the UK for a week in mid-October before we make the big move, so UK friends and family, we're hoping to see you there!

Back to this past weekend - we found time between hectic Toronto planning for the Rennie's River Duck Race, which has been running since 1988 and is a kind of bizarre, but very fun event. For $10, you can sponsor one of 5000 rubber ducks that are then unleashed in an epic race down Rennie’s River. Of course, there are prizes ($3500 for first place!) but unfortunately our three ducks (Benny, Jenny and Steve) got lost somewhere on the way down.

Though we didn’t win, we had a lot of fun. Before the race there was live music and free hotdogs, and it was just nice to be hanging out by the river. Proceeds from the event help support the Quidi Vidi / Rennie’s River Development Foundation, which is all about environmental education, conservation and stewardship, so it was all for a good cause. Not all was lost.

I saw the title of this post while scrolling through Bloglovin' and immediately clicked the link. That sounds like such a fun event and seems to really draw attention to a great cause. Awesome!
