This weekend we braved the drizzle and fog with a few friends for a round of Foot Golf at Clovelly Golf Course!
Apparently Foot Golf, which is Football/Soccer + Golf, has been taking the world by storm. However, it has only just reached Atlantic Canada with Clovelly recently opening the only Foot Golf Course east of Quebec. It is part of the existing golf course, but the Foot Golf hole is (obviously) much bigger, and off to the side of the green. Its worth noting that the Foot Golf hole is also an excellent frog trap - a couple of very confused looking frogs did require rescuing as we made our way around. Luckily, we had an outdoor education expert with us who wasn't at all scared of their gross sliminess.

The rules of the game are identical to regular golf so it was pretty straightforward to get started. With the drizzle making our balls nice and slippery, we had some trouble kicking straight (or maybe we're just blaming our lack of coordination on the weather), so there were a few wayward shots taking us into the rough and dangerously close to water hazards. In the end, the scores were very close but Luke did manage to pull ahead on the last hole.
All in all, it was a very accessible version of golf and a great way to spend a couple of hours outside. Due to the rain we were glad we only did 9 holes this time, but we would definitely return for a full 18 on a sunny day.

Retiring to a warm pub for some beer and snacks was very welcome, and gave us a chance to watch the pros at work (i.e. England beating Mexico in the Women's World Cup), and marvel at their ability to kick the ball so far with so much accuracy.
