Lighthouse Picnic Saturday

This weekend we headed out of town with a few friends to enjoy the sunny weather and a picnic by the sea!

We drove an hour or so south of St. John's to Ferryland, a small town famous for being one of the earliest permanent settlements in Newfoundland. The weather was beautiful, and the coastal drive was a nice change from driving along the Trans Canada Highway where there is no ocean in sight, just trees as far as the eye can see.

Once we arrived at Ferryland we drove past the old archaeological site, heading further out onto the headland along a precarious gravel road. We parked our car and made the rest of the way on foot to a very scenic lighthouse that is currently home to Lighthouse Picnics. Lightouse Picnics are (unsurprisingly) a small company based in the lighthouse that make picnics. Delicious picnics.

The Lighthouse itself.
After meeting up with our friends, we headed into the lighthouse, ordered our picnics, took a picnic blanket and a flag for them to identify us by, then headed out onto the expansive headland to pick our spot. We stayed fairly close to the lighthouse, but other people were scattered far and wide making it a bit of a challenge for the staff to see where they were supposed to deliver the food.

Our delicious picnic.
The food came very quickly and did not disappoint. Each person received a salad, a delicious sandwich on oatmeal bread, a glass (read: mason jar) of fresh lemonade, and a dessert of their choosing. Luke opted for Chutney Glazed Ham and Brie sandwich, with Chocolate cake, while Elizabeth went for the Curried Chicken sandwich and the Orange and Cranberry Scone.

We were very lucky to have such fantastic weather, allowing us to spend the whole afternoon lazing in the sun, enjoying our picnics and hanging out with friends. We'd definitely recommend the Lighthouse Picnics to everyone we know, and will be sure to take another opportunity to head back out there for another sandwich in the sun!

Here are some more photos from our afternoon spent enjoying our Lighthouse Picnic experience:

That looks like a great idea! I wish there was something like that near us, but sadly, no lighthouses...
Guess, I'll have to make my own picnic and find some other grass to sit on :)

Exactly. Plus, you can just imagine that there is a lighthouse wherever you decide to picnic... and imagine that someone is serving you your picnic food. Problem solved. ;)

Just stumbled across this blog...I'm planning a NL trip with my wife and friends this summer and were planning to do the Lighthouse Picnic as well.

I'm leaving this post, because I think your little pup is adorable. :) We also have a Portuguese Water Dog as well (if that is in fact what he is) and I'm already starting to miss the guy looking at your pictures (because he isn't coming) even though our trip isn't for another 2 months! lol.
