Our Something Saturday was a little early this week because Luke was out of town over the weekend, checking out the Formula 1 festivities in Montreal with some of his friends from university. So on Wednesday, we headed out to check out a night of the Lulaworld music festival!
Lula Lounge, on Dundas St West, hosts an annual world music festival which promotes and encourages collaboration between local and international artists. It's in its eleventh year and the event focuses mainly on world music, jazz, and Latin performers.
We stopped by for their Wednesday evening show which featured the Aquiles Baez trio straight from Venezuela, along with impressive opening acts. The show started at 7:30 pm and went on for over 2.5 hours - definitely worth the $15!

Lula Lounge is a unique venue that has a stage, dance floor, and lots of tables for grabbing a bite to eat; it's too bad we ate before the event!
The show kicked off with Toronto-based Brazilian guitarist Wagner Petrilli who was nominated for a Canadian Folk Award in 2015. He performed a couple of songs solo and then brought his band on stage for some awesome Brazilian rhythms. You can't go wrong with some casual vibraphone.

After the first act, the curtain was opened to reveal a much larger stage. Next up was local singer-songwriter Eliana Cuevas who dazzled the audience with her Spanish and English vocals and upbeat tracks. She was was energetic and was backed up by a great band along with guests joining her on stage from time to time.

Finally, around 9:30 pm, the Aquiles Baez Trio took the stage. Aquiles Baez is a renowned Venezuelan guitarist and it was his first time in Toronto. The trio was obviously having a lot of fun on stage and the crowd was loving it.
Since it was getting late (for a work night), we set off part of the way through the last set, but overall it was a fun Wednesday night out! We will be making out way back to Lula Lounge at some point, no doubt.
