Moore Park Ravine Saturday

Last Saturday, Elizabeth was supposed to be participating in a work golf tournament so when the tournament was cancelled due to rainfall from the day before, we knew we wanted to spend our day exploring instead. So, after a bit of Googling, Moore Park Ravine it was!

We started our adventure from St. Clair Subway Station, with Luke leading the way to the ravine. The first street we walked down was a dead end, but we didn't let that stop us. So back to Yonge St to take the route through Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Mount Pleasant Cemetery opened in 1876 and, unlike today, was originally on the outskirts of the City of Toronto. The cemetery was meant for all citizens of the city, unlike the Roman Catholic and Anglican cemeteries that were located within the boundaries of the city. The cemetery still feels like a park but when it opened, it had ~19 km of pathways through the trees.

Unfortunately all of those pathways threw us off, and we found ourselves confused on more than one occasion. With the heat beating down on us, we devised a plan and finally made our way through to the other side.

Walking along Mount Pleasant Rd, and then Moore Ave, we finally made it to the beginning of the Moore Park Ravine Trail! It only took us an hour. Guess we should have paid more attention to the map...

We made it!
We starting walking along Mud Creek, on a trail that took us under tree canopies which quickly made us feel like we were transported outside of the big city.

After a bit of walking, we started feeling hungry and our packed lunches were dragging us down so we started searching for the perfect picnic spot. There didn't seem to be many picnic spots along the trail, so we stopped at the first place we saw. We climbed down a little ways into the ravine and pulled out our picnic blanket. Somehow we found the perfect place for a break (and a snack).

Continuing along this spectacular trail, we made it all the way down to the Don Valley Brick Works, soaking up the sun along the way. We then explored the Brick Works for a while, trying not to photobomb all of the wedding photos that were being taken.

After some time hanging out at the Brick Works, we took another trail back to Castle Frank Station, which concluded our epic day out. It took us 12,000 steps, but it was worth it.

(SLIDESHOW)
This time last year we checked out the Aga Khan Museum, in 2015 we went to the Nickel Film Festival in St. John's, in 2014 we visited Bay Roberts and Brigus when Luke's parents were visiting Newfoundland, and in 2013 we checked out Salmonier Nature Park... in the rain...
