Murder at the ROM Saturday

This weekend we returned to the Royal Ontario Museum with Elizabeth's Aunt Vicki to take on the mysterious case of Murder at the ROM.

Super sleuth.
Murder at the ROM is one of a number of murder mysteries and scavenger hunts put off by Urban Capers around Toronto, and involves exploring the museum to find clues, answer questions and unravel the mystery. There were around ten other teams taking part, but once we were all signed up and introduced to the rules of the game we were each sent off to explore different parts of the museum to tackle our cryptic questions.

Looking very confused after clue #1.
We don't want to spoil the mystery for anyone, so lets just say we had a really great time exploring the place and trying to solve the clues. It was a great way to get a quick tour the museum too.: over the course of the two hours we went from the Middle East to Canadian History via precious stones and minerals, which piqued our interest for later. It was a really great set up, and the organisers gave us ample time to tackle the clues so there was none of the stress and running around that's involved in an escape room.

Once we felt we'd solved all the clues we needed to solve, we sat down for the final few minutes to try and figure out the big mystery. Who did it? With what? Where? And what was their motive...? We're not entirely sure how, but we must have got something right as we squeaked into first place (by half a point!) to win ourselves a fancy certificate and a magnifying glass. A lot of fun was had.

Winners...
After a break in the museum cafe we headed back to some of the exhibits we thought looked interesting along the way. We first headed back to look at the precious stones and minerals exhibit which was really interesting (for a room full of rocks), and then made our way to the Chinese section where we found a particularly timeless poem from 825AD about how much of a shame it is to spend your day at the office.

Another great day at the ROM thanks to Urban Capers. We'll definitely be looking them up again later in the year when they start their outdoor (and boozy) hunts around the Distillery District.

Here are some more photos from our weekend:

This time last year we were down by Quidi Vidi for Hometown Hockey, and in 2014 we were visiting Lewisporte amidst crazy winter storms for Elizabeth's pop's 80th Birthday.

This is such a cool concept and I love that it's held in such a beautiful space. I need to see if something like this exists near me!

I know, I love the concept and really want to partake in some of their outdoor summer scavenger hunts!

Fingers crossed there's something like this in your area because it really is a great way to spend some time!
