Here are some more pics from our Saturday:
This weekend we dug our skates out of the closet and set off for Nathan Phillips Square to take advantage of the free outdoor skating rink. But not before filling up with some tasty Canadian comfort food... Nathan Phillips Square is just a couple of subway stops away, so around lunchtime on Saturday we made our way down there to pick up some lunch and do some skating. We'd noticed a restaurant near the square before, Bannocks, which had advertised "Canadian comfort food" and that sounded perfect for a cold winter's day. It did not disappoint: Luke enjoyed a Grand Slam breakfast with inch-thick bacon, griddlecakes and venison sage sausages, while Elizabeth had a far too big duck poutine pizza. We'll definitely be back for more. Nice and full, we went back outside for a skate. Luckily, the rink wasn't too crowded, so after a quick sharpen we were off. As always, we started off a bit shaky but quickly regained enough control to avoid the occasional group-selfie standing in the middle of the rink, or wayward child skating against the tide. After a few laps, and a couple of breaks, we were done for the day, but we know for sure that we'll be skating again this winter. Here are some more pics from our Saturday: Funnily enough, this time last year we were at DJ Skate Night down by the water. Two years ago we were also being pretty active, learning to climb.
