Newfoundland Wedding Weekend #1

Last weekend involved a whirlwind trip back to Newfoundland for Elizabeth’s cousin (Sarah)’s wedding. With a mere 60 hours on the island, we had a fun weekend with family and enjoyed the Central Newfoundland sunshine!

On Thursday evening after work, we headed off to the airport to catch our 3 hour flight to St. John’s. Arriving in St. John’s just after 2 am, we still managed to stay up until 4 am chatting with Elizabeth’s Dad who is known affectionately as the social butterfly of the family. No wonder.

After a slow start on Friday, we squeezed in a couple of visitors before hitting the road and making the 4 hour trek out to Lewisporte. Funny enough, about an hour into the trip we ended up driving behind Elizabeth’s uncle and cousins for a while! After a couple of pee breaks, we found ourselves at the villa where we were staying and got settled in while catching up with the rest of the immediate family.

Our weekend in Lewisporte was full of wedding festivities, family, food, and drink. It all started with the Rehearsal BBQ on Friday night, where we all received our fair share of mosquito bites, but enjoyed the beautiful sunset, fresh crab, and views of the harbour. Luke also enjoyed the screen door so much that he tried to walk through it.

Afterwards, many members of the Norman family headed back to the villa where we were staying, where even more drinks and snacks made an appearance. Some of the cocktails weren’t as tasty as usual but they still hit the spot; we did what we could with limited tools and (unintentionally) extremely alcoholic Moscow Mules.

On Saturday morning, we took it fairly easy decorating our cars and somehow still struggled to be ready for the wedding at 2pm. Sarah and Matthew’s ceremony at the church was beautiful and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. The afternoon was then full of family photos, more food at Elizabeth’s Pop’s house, and lots more family. We enjoyed the sunny weather and played some games of washers and bocce while soaking up the rays between the ceremony and the reception.

Nice socks, Andy
Then it was time for the reception. The decorations looked great, the speeches were funny, and the candy bar was quite the hit. When the lights went down, the Norman cousins were not a disappointment on the dance floor, as can be quantified by Rebecca’s Fitbit that clocked 7000 steps between midnight and 2 am when the dance ended. And we were dancing for two hours before that… and we did not partake in a car bar…

After some goodbyes on Sunday morning, we headed to the Gander airport with Rebecca and Andy to fly with them to Halifax, and then we continued on to Toronto. It may have been a little far to go for a long weekend, but we’re so glad we went. Congratulations Sarah and Matthew, it was one for the books!

Here are some more photos of the weekend; a big thanks to Elizabeth’s Dad for taking way more photos than we did and letting us share the photos on the blog:

And now you find yourself wondering "what were these two up to this time 12 months ago?" Well fear not, we have a blog post for that... and for the year before... and for the year before.

Elizabeth and Luke we were so happy that you took the trek home!!! Even though we didn't get a lot of time to spend together (I wonder why) it meant the world to us to have you here. It wouldn't have been the same without you. Love you both so much and
Look forward to another "time" spent together. Tell Dave the pics are fabulous!! Rock on my babies!!
