Pop-Up Deli Saturday

On Saturday we ventured to the Sheraton Hotel to eat our way around the 'Pop-Up Deli On the Square' fundraiser!

The Pop-Up Deli was put on by the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Chefs and Cooks, and the food was prepared by a variety of chefs from various restaurants. It was $10 per person, which included a main dish, side dishes, cookies, and coffee/water.

As this was our first time at this type of event, we were pretty confused at first as to how the system worked. It wasn't obvious what they were offering, who was supposed to take our ticket, and where to start; a couple of signs outside the crowded room or a person to direct traffic could have significantly clarified the process.

After making our rounds, Luke settled on the Macaroni & Cheese with Maple-braized Pulled Pork, provided by Harbour Breeze Catering, while Elizabeth went for the Prosciutto Caprese sandwich on Foccacia, made by the Delta Restaurant. We also had soup and salads as our side dishes.

For some reason, in the pictures below it's difficult to tell that the meals were completely different; we're blaming it on the fact that Luke's bread roll stole the spotlight from his Mac & Cheese.
Then we took our food to the Courtyard Garden where they had tables set up, and we ate with Elizabeth's parents and her grandmother (after some table-shuffling).

Overall, the meals were a great deal and all of the food was delicious. It was very filling but we did manage to squeeze in a couple of cookies after the main course.

All in all, a tasty Something Saturday!

In other news, we're going to Cuba next Sunday, for a week, so there won't be another blog post until after we get back. But when we're back in the country there will definitely be a post (or two) about our adventures in Havana!
