Riverside Eats and Beats Saturday

This weekend, between a birthday party in the park, and some evening drinks with friends, we managed to head over to Queen Street East for the Riverside Eats and Beats Streetfest to check out some local art at the annual Riverdale Art Walk.

Around midday we headed out to Trinity Bellwoods park to celebrate with Elizabeth’s pal from the Canadian Space Agency, Everett. Since it had been his birthday the day before, we joined the party in the park for a few drinks under the shade of a tree, as the pet dogs who’d been brought along engaged in epic play-battle with one another until they could barely stand. They were all fine, just tired and thirsty.

After hanging out at the part for a bit, we hitched a ride (thanks Alysha and Jason) over to Queen Street East for the Riverside Eats and Beats Streetfest. As we drew closer to Queen Street East we were greeted by a live rendition of Will Smith’s Fresh Prince of Bel Air, which told us we were indeed in for a treat. We headed on down the street, picking up a tasty smoothie and some free wine along the way, as we made our way towards the Riverdale Art Walk.

The Art Walk is in its 18th year now, and is an outdoor festival featuring work from over 180 artists. We kind of went in with a mind to fill up a large blank space on our living room wall, so we ended up checking out pretty much every artist on show to see what took our fancy. Needless to say, with art covering all media, in all styles, there was a lot to take in. It was pretty amazing to see so many talented folk all gathered in one place, and there were more than a few pieces that grabbed our attention. Unfortunately, we weren’t a mood to splash out on a painting there and then, so walked away with a few business cards instead, so that we can continue our art browsing online.

Admiring art turned out to be pretty hungry work, so we also picked up a snack from one of the food stalls on the go. We opted for a tasty pulled pork sandwich that gave us the energy we needed to get our art on. All in all, it was a really nice way to spend an afternoon in the sun.

In the evening, we headed out for dinner and drinks with a couple of friends, and ended up watching the sun set from the rooftop bar of Pauper’s Pub on Bloor. A great way to end the day.
Curious what we were doing this time in previous years? Last year we hopped on an Eco Boat Tour as part of World Ocean's Day. In 2014, we watched some crazy dogs do amazing tricks at SuperDogs, and in 2013 we checked out a Provincial Historic Site in St. John's and Elizabeth graduated from university!

You guys are really inspiring me to check out more of the coo things Toronto has to offer this summer! I live in the east end, and rarely venture west of Spadina. Now I think I need to!
