On Saturday morning we decided to check out the new outdoor skating rink in our neighbourhood - the Bannerman Loop!
Bannerman Loop
The rink is located in Bannerman Park, and was constructed as part of a revitalization project for the park. It opened for the first time on Christmas Eve and there have been skaters on it ever since.
We were there for just over an hour, and it was a lot of fun. The weather was cooperative; clear skies and not too chilly. We wanted to go in the morning to avoid the crowds, and we seemed to be fairly successful in that because the number of people seemed to increase as time went on. There were lots of kids learning how to skate, as well as kids being pushed in strollers around the loop - to expose them to the skating atmosphere as sleeping infants, we presume.
The loop is open every day and is free to the public. Overall, the ice quality was great, with a few bumpy patches. We'll definitely be going back and we're hoping to check it out in the evening sometime!
Then in the evening we went out for dinner and drinks with friends, in the Underbelly of Yellowbelly Brewery. It was our first time in the Underbelly (the basement), and actually Elizabeth's first time at Yellowbelly. Plus, it is interesting to note that the room we were in is one of the oldest rooms in North America!
