TEDx, Bunyan's Cove, and Father's Day Hike Weekend

We had a pretty busy and fun-filled weekend, including going to TEDx St. John's on Friday, spending Saturday and part of Sunday in Bunyan's Cove, and ending with the First Annual Father's Day Hike on Monday evening.

Yes, that was the actual colour of the sky in Bunyan's Cove on Saturday evening. Amazing.
First of all, TEDx St. John's was awesome! Lots of different and interesting talks, and it was done very professionally. We were most impressed with the musical parts and the minute that every single person in the room was silent and meditated during the meditation talk. Crazy. Here's the only picture we snapped, which doesn't show much because it was just setting up the stage on a break. If anything, it's just proof we were there.

On Saturday we got up bright and early to make the 2.5 hour drive to Lauren's cabin in Bunyan's Cove. We loaded our stuff into the car but as soon as we started driving, the rain started pouring. It was Luke's first time driving on the Trans Canada Highway, so it was a bit freaky to say the least. It's hard to tell from the picture, but the rain was torrential.

Luckily, after half an hour of driving the rain had mostly subsided and the weather had improved significantly by the time we got to Bunyan's Cove, which is on the other side of the bay from Terra Nova National Park. After we arrived and reunited with Lauren, Cam, and Rebecca (and our new friend, Rachel), we spent some time playing badminton, tossing and jumping with the Majik Disk (read "Frisbee"), blowing bubbles, playing Taboo etc.
After an afternoon of fun-filled activities, we had a Surf 'n' Turf dinner, but not before we learned how to break apart cooked lobsters. Luke may or may not have gotten lobster juice all over his pants (trousers) in the process.

After dinner, we all went for a walk to buy ice cream from the store. Along the way, some of us spent some time trying to pile an extra person onto a bicycle, and throwing rocks into the ocean. Luke, Cam and Rachel enjoyed a wonderful game of "throw-rocks-at-the-piece-of-wood-floating-on-the-water". When it got dark we had a fire in the backyard, a sing-along, and looked at the stars.
Unfortunately we had to cut the trip short on Sunday to get back for a Father's Day BBQ, but it was a great 24 hour trip!

Then on Monday evening, we had our First Annual Father's Day Hike with Elizabeth's Family. We hiked the East Coast Trail from Torbay to Flatrock. It took just over 2 hours and we were threatened by rain throughout the entire trip. Luckily it didn't get too bad until the very end.

Look, it even says "Father's Day Trail Torbay"!
It was everyone's first time on the trail and we were impressed, and a bit freaked out, by how the trail goes along some very steep cliffs. We mainly had to keep Maebe (and Elizabeth's mom in one instance) in check and on the leash.
So that concludes our coverage of our busy weekend, and here's a slideshow of some more pictures that weren't included earlier!
