For the second half of our Christmas in Newfoundland, we continued to play games, visit friends and family, and also took in some live Newfoundland music!

The snow came out in full force late on New Year's Eve, and St. John's rang in the New Year with lots of white stuff all around. Luke was thrilled to have a White (second half of) Christmas, and may have been a little too excited, considering he has lived in Canada for almost 3 years now...

After another couple days of eating, drinking, and being merry, on Saturday night we decided to check out some local live music at O'Reilly's Pub. We snatched a table, crammed 5 of us into a corner booth and enjoyed the folk/traditional music of The Irish Descendants.

Then on Sunday, we went to the annual Christmas show by The Once - a local Newfoundland trio that plays traditional music, unique covers, as well as original songs. For this performance, The Eight Day of Christmas, they also had a few guests playing along with them such as the Atlantic String Quartet, Bob Hallett from Great Big Sea, and Duane Andrews - all big names in the local and national music scene.

It was our first time seeing The Once play live, and it will not be our last! Their CDs are incredible, but their live performance was so much more impressive, as hard as that may be to believe. Part of the fun was down to the interactivity of the show, but most of our amazement came from the enormous talent of the group; definitely a band that is worth seeing live! Plus, Gower Street United Church was the perfect festively-decorated venue for the show.

We thoroughly enjoyed our holidays in Newfoundland, and were happy to see some of the familiar live Newfoundland music that is hard(er) to come by in Toronto. We were also happy to catch up with our family and friends while we were home. Farewell,  Newfoundland!

... Curious what we were doing this weekend in previous years? In 2015, we put our cocktail making skills to the test and learned some new drink recipes and fancy drink-making techniques. And this time in 2014, we were in the middle of a big snowstorm with power outages galore, so we made a (basic but fun) stop motion animation movie!
