Winterlicous Weekend

During a super busy weekend of sleeping in, reading and going to the movies, we somehow managed to make it out to not one, but two restaurants as part of Toronto's Winterlicious Prix Fixe Promotion.

Winterlicious is a week long promotion where more than 220 restaurants across Toronto offer a Prix Fixe menu for lunches and dinner. This sounded like a delicious Something Saturday opportunity, so we went online and picked a couple of restaurants, almost completely at random, and booked ourselves in for a Saturday lunch and a Sunday dinner.

On Saturday we set out for lunch at Il Posto, which is just a ten minute walk away from our apartment in fancy Yorkville. We had, for some reason, assumed that Il Posto was an entirely different restaurant that we had passed by before, but upon reaching said restaurant we realised we hadn't check directions at all, and had ended up in the wrong place. Fortunately, we were just around the corner. Once we made it to Il Posto we had a delicious lunch of grilled calamari, broccoli soup, vegetarian gnocchi, sausage pasta and a couple of tasty Italian desserts.

Our second Winterlicious experience took us up to St. Claire West, to the Indian restaurant Pukka. Elizabeth had heard of this place before, and had been eyeing it up for a visit so we were pretty happy to check it out. It did not disappoint.

Arriving at around 7:30 we found the place to be completely full, with delicious smells engulfing us as we stepped off the frigid street and into the cosy restaurant. Fortunately, we had made reservations so after a short wait we were sat down and ready to go. The food at Pukka was made to share, which was perfect for us, so we samples a nice selection from their Winterlicious menu, including fried chicken and vegetable pakoras to start, followed by butter chicken and fish curry (with garlic naan on the side, of course), and rice pudding and mango mousse to finish. We are big fans of Indian food, and on such a cold night it was a real treat.

All in all our Winterlicious experience was a complete success. We had to resist very hard the temptation to set out to yet another restaurant on Monday evening; so many tasty looking spots to try out. We'll just have to wait for Summerlicious to roll around (that's not a joke, Summerlicious is a real thing. If only there was a Springlicious too).

Here are a few more photos from our weekend.
This time last year we were having perhaps the greatest Something Saturday of all; hanging out with hundreds of dogs. Two years ago we were trying to wrap our heads around some conceptual art at an artist's talk.
