On a lighter note, there were also photos documenting conservationists successful efforts to save the Giant Panda, including several pics of researchers dressed head-to-toe in Panda outfits so as to not stress out the Giant Pandas in their natural habitat. We also enjoyed the classic photo of Usain Bolt's massive smile as he looked back at his competitors in the 100m semi final in Rio.
Elizabeth was otherwise occupied on Saturday, getting shot at with paint by her colleagues, so we enjoyed our Something Saturday on Sunday instead, heading downtown to check out this year's World Press Photo exhibit. We caught last year's World Press Photo exhibit when we visited Peter and Emily in Montreal, and enjoyed it a lot. The exhibit collects together some of the best work of visual journalists from throughout the year, and covers everything from sports to current events, as well as some longer term projects from visual storytellers that provide deeper insight into the daily life and struggles of people around the world. The exhibit was a stark reminder of how lucky we are living in Canada, to be so far away from violence, corruption and war, and how challenging life is for so many people. The many photos of refugees, taking extraordinary risks to escape their homelands of Syria and Nigeria, were particularly saddening, but there were many other scenes of strife from all around the world. We were really glad we caught the exhibit again, and we'll be sure to keep an eye for it when it comes around next year.
