We spent this past (long) weekend with some friends on the West Coast of Newfoundland, soaking up some sun and checking out a few sights!
This spring, the Canadian Wildlife Federation put off a campaign, entitled Walk for Wildlife, encouraging Canadians to explore and learn about the wildlife in their area. The Portugal Cove-St Philips Walking & Hiking Club held a Walk for Wildlife last Saturday which was all about frogs, so we joined in!
This past Saturday we attended a Wilderness Survival course and learned quite a few new skills! But knowing what we know now, we're not interested in surviving in the wild anytime soon, if we have anything to say about it.
On Saturday, we went to Manuels River to check out the new interpretation centre and trails with Elizabeth's parents (and Maebe).
On Saturday we had a pretty active day; Luke participated in Mud Immortal with some friends in the morning, and we hiked the Quidi Vidi portion of the East Coast Trail in the afternoon!
We spent this past weekend on the Bonavista Peninsula! Unfortunately, there was an unexpected power outage for 6 hours during the day on Saturday, so that modified our fairly vague plans. It also made us realize how tough it is to be a tourist when there is no electricity and all of the businesses in a community shut down! Luckily we had some beautiful weather and were still able to take advantage of the great outdoors.
This past weekend we went to Eastport with Elizabeth's family! We spent most of the weekend exploring, hanging out at the beach, and enjoying the beautiful weather that Eastport had to offer.
On Saturday we went to the MUN Botanical Garden, and then went out for Ocean Pond for another weekend at the cabin! The weather was amazing (if a bit too hot), but was perfect for swimming in the pond.
Over the Canada Day long weekend, Luke's parents came to visit! It was their first time in Newfoundland so we got to show them a few of our favourite things, as well as check out some new sights.
Our Something Saturdays for this weekend included seeing capelin rolling in at Beachy Cove, and visiting the Colony of Avalon in Ferryland. We also went to the Captain's Table restaurant in Mobile, that we hadn't been to before. Plus, it was Luke's first Canada Day in Canada! |
